Vizconde Recalled

Now that the Supreme Court have acquitted Hubert Webb et. al. of the murder charges on the basis that the testimony of the star witness Jessica Alfaro is flawed from the very beginning, this brings us back to the question of who the real perpetrators are. Whether Hubert and company are guilty or not, justice demands that the guilt must be proven beyond any reasonable doubt. The Philippine judicial system is very imbalanced, when dealing with high-profile cases are either often swayed by public opinion or political pressure. One could say that Judge Amelita Tolentino literally washed her hands off the Vizconde case by allowing the pernicious testimony of Jessica Alfaro to prosper, in the effort of trying to appease the mob’s fury.
My heart is also sad for Lauro Vizconde who may never see the closure of this life long tragedy during his lifetime. I pray that he will not grow bitter, but instead put his trust and hope in God who will surely bring justice and closure where man’s justice have failed to provide.

Maybe PNoy is finally growing up… hopefully

For backing the “informed choice” policy on birth control, which is a purely secular matter, the Roman Catholic church is threatening to excommunicate PNoy. What does the Catholic Church think it is? That it runs the government? No wonder the CBCP is labelled as “Damaso” which is actually not far from the truth. The truth that Catholic priests have fathered children, in spite of their vows. Some of them have even sexually abused children.
Sex education does not equate to promiscuity, regardless of what their (priests) dirty minds might think. Always remember one thing, the Roman Catholic Church is the consumate master of double talk, with more than 2,000 years of practice.

US Iraqi withdrawal: Recipe for disaster…

The usual Democrat bleeding hearts are pushing through with the troop withdrawal regardless whether or not Iraqi security forces are ready or not.  This mule-headed action aptly describes the “REMF” mentality surrounding the U.S. politicians and ignorant public.  They never learn from lessons in history.  If ever the pullout pushes through by the end of next year, it sends a signal to all the terrorist groups that the U.S. is really a paper tiger, and all they need to do is to wait for the U.S. to pullout then escalate their attacks.  The funny thing here is that when attacks do escalate after the pullout, those “REMF” will start screaming for heads to roll and blaming the military for not doing their job.

“To keep the peace, one must be ready to wage war.”  A paradox yet history bears witness to this truth.

jailbreak 2.0: IPhone users rejoice…

At last..Jailbreaking is now legal in the US… The concept of unlocking an iPhone and using unofficial applications ended up in a legal case in the United States, with the country’s Copyright Office ruling that “the practice of removing restrictions on third-party applications fell under fair use guidelines”.

It doesn’t make any sense  where one already paid the full price for the unit and yet restricted from doing whatever one wants with the unit…  Basically it boils down to greed.  As for me, I don’t have an IPhone, I’m waiting for  Android to become stable…. :)

What a drivel: CBCP vs contraceptives program

This first collective statement from the CBCP to the new Aquino administration will set the tone for the future interactions between the Catholic Church and the government.  If the Aquino government agrees to this drivel, then he is doing a very big disservice to the people he swore to serve.

http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/breakingnews/nation/view/20100712-280703/Catholic-Church-asks-Aquino-to-drop-contraceptives-program.

In my opinion, the government should do what it deems to be necessary for the good of all the people residing in the country, not merely for the benefit of the certain sectors.  The Catholic Church should keep her nose out of the people’s private lives,  when she can’t even handle her own priests who sires children and those that commited child abuse.

Agrarian reform in the Philippines: A new hope?

With the advent of the new Aquino administration, will the Philippines finally be able to experience self-sufficiency in rice productions and other foodstuff? Or is it just another “ningas-cogon” for the first 100 days of the new administration?

Land reform is indeed a noble aspiration and a requisite step to transforming the Philippines into a tiger economy.   Importing foodstuff makes us captives to the vagaries of world market prices.  We need to make use of the expertise of IRRI to shore up our rice production.  Look at Thailand and Vietnam, they are currently rice exporters due to the fact that they made good use of the technical expertise of IRRI.

Land reform is not merely distributing land to the farmers.  There should be a complete safety net to help the small farmers make full use of the land provided to them.

Some suggestions:

1.  Land distributed should be prohibited from being sold for a period of five years.

2.  Land that is not being tilled or not productive should be transferred by the government to another person or entity capable of cultivating the land.
